The Early Years Curriculum Focus
PREP: Students develop their love of literacy through picture story books, rhyming verse, poetry, film, and dramatic performances. They participate in shared reading and storytelling and create a range of imaginative and informative written pieces and performances. Students start to make sense of the world around them and begin to link numbers and patterns to their everyday lives.
YEAR 1: Students focus on developing their knowledge, understanding and skills in oral language, reading, viewing, writing and creating. They consolidate their understanding, fluency and problem-solving in Mathematics. These concepts reinforce the significance of working mathematically.
YEAR 2: The English program encompasses the three interrelated strands of language, literature and literacy. This builds on concepts, skills and processes developed in earlier years, and teachers will revisit and strengthen these as needed. The students are developing proficiency in Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry and Statistics and Probability. They describe how the content is explored using mathematical language.
YEAR 3: Students listen to, read, view and interpret spoken, written and multimodal texts. They create a range of imaginative, informative and persuasive written pieces. In Mathematics, students are starting to make connections between mathematical processes and developing efficient strategies to problems solve. They begin to use more formal mathematical language.
