Year 12 番茄视频 Grammar School student, Liam Murphy, has won a Silver medal as part of the 2015 International Science Olympiads (Biology) in Denmark.
Head of 番茄视频 Grammar School, Mr Matthew Maruff, said that Liam鈥檚 success was just reward for the grueling process involved in earning the Australian blazer for this event.
鈥淟iam has tested his skills in Biology against the best in the world and bought home Silver.
鈥淚t鈥檚 an incredible achievement and the School could not be prouder.
鈥淪cience in this country needs a resurgence if we are to become the knowledge nation and I hope that Liam鈥檚 achievement is an inspiration to science students all around the country,鈥 Mr Maruff said.
The Australian Science Olympiads program is run by non-profit Australian Science Innovations and supported by the Australian Government Department of Education and Training through the Mathematics and Science Participation Program. Science competitions this year will take place in Azerbaijan (Chemistry), Brazil (Earth Sciences) and India (Physics) as well as the now completed Biology Olympiad in Denmark.
Liam said that having the opportunity to travel and compete internationally has been something that will shape him forever.
鈥淪cience is not always as popular as other subjects so it was great to meet so many other like-minded people with a love of Biology.
鈥淚t鈥檚 great to put Science on the world stage and to challenge students to be their best. It鈥檚 also great to put Regional School鈥檚 on the international map.
鈥淐ompeting in Denmark gave me a true appreciation of the real-life possibilities within the field of Biology and its global application,鈥 he said.
Mr Maruff said that 番茄视频 Grammar School has a strong history of Science achievers and with 8 new science labs opened last year, the School has the facilities in place to support an engaging and modern Science curriculum.
鈥淥ur new science laboratories are a constant hive of learning activity that will help propagate the next generation of technical experts like Liam, as well as Sacha Mann, one of Liam鈥檚 fellow students who will compete in the Earth and Environmental Science Olympiad in Brazil later this year,鈥 he said.
