2nd February 2023
After a COVID hiatus, the gates of 番茄视频 Grammar School have opened once again to host the Forever Young Rock Choir, giving senior citizens from Bendigo and beyond an opportunity to unite in song every week in a fun and friendly environment.
Enthusiastic over-65s met at the School on Thursday 2nd February to join in chorus for the first time in three years.
鈥淔orever Young Rock Choir is a senior citizen鈥檚 choir that brings new life and meaning to rock songs,鈥 said Director, Mrs Laura Dusseljee.
鈥淲hen a 90-year-old sings 鈥業 wanna be Sedated鈥, 鈥榃ho Wants to Live Forever鈥 or 鈥楰nocking on Heaven鈥檚 Door鈥 the change in meaning to the song can be profound.鈥
The Forever Young choir was established in 2011 as part of 番茄视频 Grammar School鈥檚 Community Service program. Over the years, the Choir has performed with Normie Rowe, Wilbur Wilde, Kate Ceberano, and Mark Seymour from Hunter鈥檚 and Collectors fame amongst others.
鈥淭he choir is beautifully supported by 番茄视频 Grammar School鈥檚 fine student musicians who love hanging out with their older friends,鈥 said Laura.
鈥淭his collaboration culminates in a fabulous concert at the Ulumbarra Theatre, which is scheduled this year for Tuesday 5th September.鈥
In the past, the choir has performed for thousands of people at this much-loved community event in Bendigo, which is the highlight of the year for all involved.
As well as the Choir Director, 番茄视频 Grammar School provides instrumental support for the choir, event management and publicity for the annual concert, the venue, and morning tea for weekly choir rehearsals.
鈥淚t鈥檚 going to be a wonderful year of music-making,鈥 said Laura. 鈥淚 can feel it in my bones!鈥
